Hypothyroid issues and Mental problems?

I’ve been doing a lot of research, and I believe I am hypothyroid. I have all of the symptoms- but i’m going to the doctor to do some blood tests tomorrow. I have had a horrible memory for about a year and a half or so. I can’t recall what I did a few days ago, or things that I have said or done. And I don’t have any memories of my past. It’s almost like they fade away and were just a dream, it doesn’t feel like reality. I’m very depressed all the time, and I always think someone is mad at me, or trying to purposely bring me down. I am constantly arguing with my boyfriend, and this is what has wanted me to "cure" myself. I am losing the man that I love because of my mental problems. I just want to know how much the thyroid has to do with the mental problems that I have lately. I can’t fit in with anyone anymore, and it feels like my world is just crashing down everytime something goes wrong.

Hypothyroidism can be misdiagnosed as many mental conditions from schizophrenia to major depressive disorder to bipolar disorder. Memory problems is another of the many symptoms of deficiency. Also affecting memory, and is common with hypothyroidism, is vitamin B12 deficiency. This vitamin is crucial for memory and when very deficient can be misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s Disease. Deficiency is also linked to Alzheimer’s as well. Hypothyroidism is commonly misdiagnosed. 90% of adults with hypothyroidism have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism).

Hypothyroidism can mimic depression, but your symptoms may well be better explained by the latter; take the quiz at http://psychcentral.com/depquiz.htm

Low mood/sadness is only one symptom. I have a weblink that I believe may well provide further help, (about effective natural treatments for depression) but if I include it here, this answer may be removed by Y!A for promoting a personal website with no direct relevance to the actual question asked, so email me, by clicking on my profile, if interested.
